Summary/Abstract: The Sovietization of Romania also touched the church structure, dealing blows against the most representative denominations: the Romanian Orthodox Church, the majority religion, the Roman Catholic Church and the Greek Catholic Church. The annihilation of these state institutions’ influence was important for the new “order enforcing” structures of the Romanian People’s Republic. The Securitate, the new repressive institution, organized on the Stalinist model, formed a special division for the surveillance of the religious denominations’ activity, as well as for actions against believers and the clergy.
