Summary/Abstract: According to the armistice convention signed on September 12, 1944, the Romanian Government took control of the north-western counties of Transylvania that had been under Hungarian occupation. However, the Soviet military command forced the Romanian government to revoke this decision and to withdraw its representatives from the region in November. Only after the pro-communist Petru Groza government was set in place in March 1945, did the Soviets allow the Romanian authorities to regain control of this region, which proved that the action was part of a political blackmail.
