Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the stylistic aspects of James Joyce‟s novel “Ulysses” as a model of modernistic techniques. We compare Homer‟s “Odyssey” with the novel “Ulysses”, detecting some common features and some discrepancies between them. For an overall approach to the phenomenon of Joyce‟s style we review it in the context of the processes that were specific to its time, taking into account: (a) the history, (b) the relations with the classical literature, (c) the partnership with psychology, philosophy and some linguistics directions. We use S. Gilbert‟s scheme for a complete vision upon J. Joyce‟s work as well.
