Summary/Abstract: Having entered the Soviet sphere of influence even before the end of the great war, the Romanians concocted a myth to help them cope with the brutal changes they were forced to live through: the myth of the Americans’ coming. The author of this study attempts to explain how this myth came into being, insisting on how it was reflected in the documents drawn up after 1948 by the Securitate (the political police) and the role it played in the resistance against communism.
