Summary/Abstract: The article represents a brief review, in a memoir-like manner, of several moments in the history of the Romanian Academy under the communist regime, with special focus on the events directly experienced by the author, i.e. those after March 1963, when he was elected a corresponding member of this high scientific forum. As general secretary between 1967-1974 and then president of the Romanian Academy over 1984-1989, Radu P. Voinea witnessed the continuous deterioration of the Romanian academic environment, due to the shortage of financial resources, to infrequent contacts with foreign countries and, finally, to the growing ideologization of scientific life.
