Summary/Abstract: The article offers a subjective overview of the presence of ants in literature, beginning with the Proverbs of Solomon. Literature always seems ready to recycle ants into stories that rely on people's fascination with a world in which human society perceives itself as an alternately utopian and distorting mirror. While in classical stories the ants are featured with a focus on their perceived qualities, in an allegorical key, modern ant stories of speculative fiction perceive the ambivalent nature of ant societies.
