Summary/Abstract: Market surveillance and inspection (MSI) activities are a basic public service and the Ministry of Industry and Technology (MoIT), which is one of the nine different institutions authorized in the field of MSI in Turkey, carries out these activities with its auditors in 81 provinces. In this study, it is aimed to reveal the technical efficiency of market surveillance and inspection activities carried out in 81 provincial directorates that constitute the provincial organization of the MoIT. Data envelopment analysis (DEA) was used in the study. For the measurement of the efficiency with DEA, first of all, input and output sets were determined and a research model was constructed. Accordingly, the number of auditors working in provincial directorates, the number of vehicles allocated to the provinces for inspections and the amount of budget used for inspection activities constitute inputs. The total number of inspections carried out in the provinces in 2021, the number of products sampled for testing and the number of administrative fines are the outputs of the model. Inter-provincial comparisons were made according to the efficiency scores obtained with the DEA model, which was designed as output-oriented. According to the findings of the study, it is considered that the efficiency of MSI activities in some provinces is low. The efficiency of MSI activities can be increased by making comparisons according to the efficiency scores of the provinces.
