Summary/Abstract: The paper focuses on the modelling of the parts of speech and their lexical and grammatical characteristics in the framework of the multilingual Universal Dependencies initiative with a view to the description of Bulgarian. Special focus is put on the modelling of auxiliaries and determiners. I conclude that, on the one hand, the Universal model is useful for typological comparisons among languages, while on the other, the price of rendering language structures comparable cross-lingually is sometimes paid by the adoption of non-typical models for representing language-specific phenomena.
