Summary/Abstract: The article deals with Georgi Gerdzhikov’s classification of parts of speech in Bulgarian with a view to the criteria it was based upon. As a result, I propose a new, extended version of his classification. I also look into his idea of the grammatical dominants of isolating, agglutinative and inflectional languages through the concepts of autonomous grammatical meaning, positional grammatical meaning and the cover term of global grammatical meaning.
