Summary/Abstract: Multiple roles of birds in Macedonian folk songs are discussed. They include nightingales, falcons, mountain partridges and doves, each having symbolic roles, especially in love songs and ritual wedding songs. The transformation of young men into falcons, and young women into mountain partridges, is particularly important in wedding songs.
