Summary/Abstract: The purpose of the paper was to affirm, through the method of negation, the hypothesis that the concepts of the chronotope and the folk wisdom are not crucial, nor they are of greater importance in the understanding of the five folk stories taken from volume four of the collected works of S. I. Verkovikj (“Prikaznata za Kuluf”/“The story of Kaluf”, “Imam um, ama nemam pari”/“I am smart but I am poor”, “Nagradena česnost”/“Rewarded honour”, “Izmekjarot – ubiec što se pokajal”/“The servant – a repentant killer” and “Česniot orač i negoviot blagoroden sin što stanal car”/“The honourable farmer and his noble son that became tsar”). The analysis and the interpretation of these stories showed elements of folk wisdom and certainly offered different chronotopes (such as the city, the “gora”, the farm field, etc.) but these are not as abundant as they were in the stories by Cepenkov, nor are they concrete. They are more generalized, abstract and they serve to locate the story in between contrasts but the given chronotopical markers do not illustrate a concrete historical spacetime. This is perhaps due to the fact that these stories are not classified as “realistic” but rather “enchanting”/fairy-like and they are indeed closer to the fairytale (in terms of motifs, symbols, clichés) than to the realistic folklore stories. This does not mean that they do not possess folk wisdom or different chronotopes, but these two concepts are probably not the ideal to be researched in this material. The novel as a genre, much more than the folk stories, contains detailed chronotopes, even though their depiction and style of depiction, is closely related to the author’s talent and “téchne”. Video-games as well are rich – as should be expected – with different chronotopes or ways to manipulate either time or space. Several examples were given of novels (Tess of the D’urbervilles – A Pure Woman and Jude the Obscure by Thomas Hardy) and video-games (The Vanishing of Ethan Carter, Cursed Mountain, Detention, to name a few), which could serve as good representation of various chronotopes directly related to the storyline (i.e. they are not presented just because or randomly given for the sake of being randomly given). These chronotopes are also critical for the protagonist to come to a certain life changing revelation or conclusion, so in this sense, their importance is much greater than the importance chronotopes in folk stories have.
