Summary/Abstract: The classification of a certain ethnographic area is a rather complex matter, considering the fact that several ethnological parameters should be taken into account, such as primarily costumes and customs, and when the other specifics of traditional culture are added to that, such as: dialect, musical folklore, folk dance tradition, etc., it becomes quite clear what a complex problem it is. Ethnoregional classification becomes even more complex when the above–mentioned determinants of traditional culture are intertwined in a certain limitrophic (border) ethnographic space, because the costume may be the same or similar to one ethnographic area, and the customary tradition, speech, musical folklore or folk dance tradition may have more similarities with another neighboring region. There are several such examples in the Macedonian ethnographic area, and this paper analyzes the traditional culture of several villages on the slopes of the mountain Skopska Crna Gora, which, although from a geographical point of view, can be classified as hill–mountain villages. However, according to the costume, we classify them into the villages that have the so–called “blat” costume, i.e. the costume that was worn in the villages of Skopsko Pole (Skopje Valley), the area known in Macedonian ethnology as Skopska Blatija. But when to this are added the specifics of the Skopska Crna Gora dialect, which differs from the dialect of the population in the villages of Skopje Blatija and Karšijak (the area south of Skopje), as well as some elements of the costume that are characteristic of the ethnographic region of Skopska Crna Gora, that is, for the rest villages on the southern slopes of this mountain, then we can also talk about a transitional, limitrophic space between these two ethnographic regions located in the vast Skopje Valley. This limitrophic ethnographic area consists of several villages, including the villages of Raštak, Bulačani, Viniče and Creševo. We believe that this paper, which is dedicated to my colleague Dr. Bone Veličkovski and his native region, will contribute to the researches in the field of regional ethnology and cultural geography, i.e. to the research of the cultural areas of the Macedonian ethnographic space, which unfortunately, throughout the decades and centuries have been decreasing more and more.
