Summary/Abstract: Greece had early adopted the French Commercial Code of 1807. The initial French influence on Greek commercial law has later been suplemented by Italian, Belgian and especially German influences, the latter being stronger in the field of interpretation of law, than in legislation. In the same time Greece has adapted its law to the regimes of certain international conventions. Recently, owing to the fact of becoming a member of the European Community, Greece has started harmonizing its commercial law with legal systems of their Community members. Multiplicity of acts regulating the commercial law, submitted to various influences, has led to an attempt of a modern codification. The work on it lasted more than thirty years and its result were three drafts made in 1981. 1984. and 1987., the last of which was made a bill presented to the Parliament on . 15. Sept. 1987. The bill consists of 306 articles in six books, and when enacted, it will make a great progrès in the Greek commercial law.
