EVALUATION OF CHANGES IN AGRICULTURAL PRODUCTION BEFORE AND AFTER IRRIGATION OF ŞANLIURFA-SURUÇ PLAIN

Summary/Abstract: Nutritional needs are met through agricultural production, and one of the most important inputs used in agricultural production is irrigation. Suruç Plain is a plain in the Suruç district of Şanlıurfa and within the scope of the GAP, and irrigation has started since 2015. Irrigation areas have increased over the years. The aim of this study is to make a general evaluation of the changes in agricultural production before and after irrigation in Şanlıurfa-Suruç Plain. Secondary data were used in the study. While there was a decrease in the grain cultivation areas made under dry farming conditions in the plain after the irrigation, there was an increase in the cotton, second crop corn and clover cultivation areas, which were not included in the product pattern before. In terms of fruits and vegetables, the cultivation areas of both product groups showed an increasing trend with the start of irrigation. It is important that the productions made in dry and wet conditions are planned according to the country's needs. Agricultural supports can be used as a guiding element in these plans.
