Summary/Abstract: A brief review of investigations of the phenomenon of disability and the disabled by mass-media is presented in the article, as well as theoretical conceptualization of the social construct of disability, as with reference to the accomplished analysis of the scientific literature. It is considered what role a narrative acts in the process of identity construction. The narrative identity of the disabled is perceived as an emplotted story phenomenon conditioning the becoming of personal and collective consciousness. One of the most popular information “stations” – press – with the help of the narrative transmits the construct of the disability fenomenon, shapes the disabled identity as well as supports public understanding of social reality. The largest Lithuanian daily newspaper “Lietuvos rytas” as well as “Bičiulystė” – a weekly for the disabled – were chosen for an empirical research. The comparative analysis reveals the differences of the stereotypization of the disabled and disability phenomenon in these publications intended for different target groups, it reflects the narrative identity construct of the disabled persons in Lithuanian press as well as problematicality of the identity self-construct.
