Summary/Abstract: The artist MINDAUGAS LUKOŠAITIS was born in 1980 in Šiauliai. Like his father Vitalijus and brother Gintautas, he chose the specialty of sculpture, which he studied at the Vilnius Art Academy (1999-2003). He started participating in exhibitions in 1997. In 2000-2002, he was a member of the group of sculptors called "Blizgė". However, sculpture did not become the dominant media of his creative expression. It was replaced by drawing - suggestive, penetrating, emotionally receptive, skillfully mastered, sensitively touching on relevant historical themes, exploring the limits of human choices, morality, sacrifice, courage, hesitation, fear, and simultaneously cruelty, duplicity, helplessness, existential fragility. His first significant cycle of 100 drawings "Resistance" (2003), dedicated to the memory of Lithuanian post-war resistance and partisan struggles, received international recognition. In 2004, it was exhibited at the 26th São Paulo Art Biennial in Brazil, where the artist represented Lithuania together with his brother Gintautas. After the exhibition, this cycle was acquired by the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark, and the publishing giant Phaidon included the works of Mindaugas Lukošaitis into the list of the most interesting and important drawing artists in the world. The artist was included into the first book series "Vitamin D" (2005), which was devoted to contemporary artists who have made significant contributions to the medium of drawing. The artist continued the development of his drawing skills while studying for a Master's degree in Graphics at the Šiauliai Academy of Vilnius University (2019-2021) and creating cycles "Jews. My Story" (2012), "Objects of Modern Art" (2012), "Rwanda 1994" (2013), "Talvisota. Winter War" (2013), "Pilėnai" (2013), "Jews. My Story 2" (2014), "Jesus Christ" (2014) "I Dreamed of Japan" (2016), "Resistance 2" (2019), "Lives. Vandžiogala" (2021-2022), "Z" (2022), "Vilnius in graphite dust" (2022). Since 2021, Mindaugas Lukošaitis is a doctoral student in the field of art at the Vilnius Academy of Arts. The artist's biography includes 7 solo exhibitions in Lithuania and the United States of America (New York) and more than 40 group exhibitions in Lithuania, Latvia, Estonia, Poland, Finland, Sweden, Austria, Hungary, Belgium, the Netherlands, Denmark, Germany, Switzerland, Luxenburg, Italy, Great Britain, Turkey, Russia, Brazil and the USA. His works have been acquired by the MO Museum in Vilnius, the Lithuanian National Museum of Art, the Šiauliai "Aušros" Museum, "Lewben Art Foundation", the Louisiana Museum of Modern Art in Denmark, and they are in private collections in Lithuania and abroad.
