Summary/Abstract: The main goal of the study is the application of taxonomic analysis to assess the financial condition of companies. The analyzed group consisted of nineteen food sector companies listed on the Warsaw Stock Exchange in 2012. Ordering and grouping of companies was done using taxonomic development measure in both the classical and positional approach. In addition, the effectiveness was verified by indicators of homogeneity, heterogeneity and clustering accuracy by taking into account the conception of Weber’s median. It turned out that better heterogeneity and accuracy groups were made using the position measure than classical approach. On the other hand groups homogeneity was worse than in the classical approach.
