Summary/Abstract: The present paper deals with the study of the educational system in Romania, focusing on the secondary school level, aiming, under the umbrella of analysis and research, to bring a new picture of the current situation of the Romanian education system, to present and shed light on the problems in the system, the steps and actions taken by the parties involved, the analysis of the status quo, even reaching the stage of solutions and recommendations. The evaluative aim of the research is to assess the effect of all the actions taken by the National Board of Pupils and to determine the added value as a result. From public policies, legislative notes, state and civil society involvement, the struggle for changes beneficial to all stakeholders, from quality education aiming at inclusion, the so intriguing phenomenon of school bullying, to some of the sad reality of the democratic, European society of 2020, where functional illiteracy is at alarming levels, we set out to analyse all these situations and answer the basic question of the importance and necessity of involving one or more interest groups from civil society in improving the quality of the Romanian education system. What is needed for the Romanian education system to be improved at all? Beyond the theoretical boundaries, the second part of the paper presents a case study based on the interaction with respondents directly involved in the educational process, analysing the experiences, the mission and the steps taken by those who are fighting for a change for the better in the Romanian education system.
