Summary/Abstract: During the Interwar period, Reșița, already an established industrial town, had quite a large number of restaurants and pubs, some short-lived, others that managed to pass through the filter of legislation and economic vicissitudes. Abundant documentary sources and press information complement each other, thus enabling the researcher to obtain relevant statistical data. The role of factories in this sector of urban life is also highlighted by the fact that they owned a restaurant. The research on the interwar social scene indicates that the activity of cafés and restaurants is a determining economic and social indicator in evaluating the urban emancipation. Thus, various social and cultural activities took place in these leisure spaces, such as book lunches, dinners and even some political meetings.
