Summary/Abstract: In Buzău, the first factories appeared in the second half of the nineteenth century in systematic mills, building materials factories, various textile workshops and oil refineries. After the Great Union, the industry had a slow evolution, with little investment. The food industry remained the most important economic branch of the city, followed by textile, building materials and metallurgical. In 1948, the state of the industry in the town of Buzau was poor, and some factories were almost closed. The technologies used were old, and the products did not have much complexity. Under these conditions, the communist authorities preferred to consolidate the old factories, modernize them, and expand them. In parallel, they developed vocational and technical education to train new workers. The industry needed an increased number of workers, which is why many people moved to the city. As a result, it was necessary to build many dwellings, from the state fund, from the funds of enterprises and even from private individuals. Industrial development has transformed the city through the emergence of block neighbourhoods, expanding utilities, by increasing the population. Some of the consequences were harmful, such as the destruction of the central area built in the nineteenth century, the ruralisation of the city, moving here a considerable number of people from the countryside, who failed to integrate into the new world, the construction of residential complexes devoid of architectural value.
