Summary/Abstract: This paper tries to provide an additional theoretical framework of the color red as a cultural and linguistic symbol in German and Bulgarian, especially in idioms. The use of red is widespread in these languages. It is present in the national flags of both Bulgaria and Germany. The symbolic meaning of red is multifaceted. It is the color of health, beauty, but also the color of blood, war and danger. In the studied languages, red is marked with different connotations such as "a lot", "good", "healthy" or "bad". However, red indicates individual language characteristics. By comparing and analyzing the use of red in 37 expressions in Bulgarian and German and their translatability, the following results were obtained. Language symbols of this color did not directly affect the color perceptions of people of both language communities. They perceive reality in many different ways.
