Social, Medical and Legal Context of Abortion in the Second Polish Republic

Summary/Abstract: Abortion is a topic that was present in the Polish social discourse of the interwar period, touching upon politics, law and medicine. The topic was a subject of heated debate, and it showcased radically opposing views in printed press, but it was also present in scientific periodical focused on medicine and law. All the arguments presented then are very similar to those we can see today on all sides. The abortion underground back then was quite active, despite the legal regulations that penalized unlawful abortions.
