Summary/Abstract: The following paper deals in particular with binary pairs as a linguistic phenomenon. In the context of this article, the terms phraseology and binary pairs are outlined. Attention is also given to the problem of the translatability of binary pairs and the degrees of equivalency in their translation. The article discusses a total of 95 binary pairs and their Bulgarian analogues, mainly from the German-Bulgarian lexicon of the binary pairs (Simeonova/ Dimitrova 2014). The examples are discussed in detail, where observations on the form and translatability of the binary pairs are summarized and the origin of some expressions is shed light on.
