Summary/Abstract: Created in order to revive Banat and Romanian football, Ripensia, the first professional club in our country, announced itself as a worthy replacement for the Chinese team, whose „star” was getting closer and closer to the west. From the very beginning, Ripi had many obstacles to overcome: frequent changes in sports legislation; the attitude, often discriminatory, on the part of the governing bodies of Romanian football; the attempts of some Transylvanian or Bucharest groups to „steal” their players; legitimation of some players; the hostility of the public and even of the law enforcement bodies, in certain situations; anti‑Semitic attacks or directed against the multiethnic character of the Timişoara team; the generally negative influence of the political factor on the functioning of the club; the rather precarious financial situation, in certain stages of its existence and so on. Managing to overcome, quite quickly, most of the obstacles mentioned above, Ripensia has become a flagship team of Romanian football, obtaining, several times, the title of national champion or winning the Romanian Cup, in addition to successfully representing over borders the colors of the club or even of the National Team. Also built on multiethnic, multilingual and multiconfessional bases, other teams operating in interwar Timişoara (the Chinese, „CFR”, „Politehnica”; „Banat”, RGMT) did not manage to match the fame of Ripensia until its disappearance from the firmament of Timişoara, Banat, Romanian or European football (in the case of „Poli”), and in other situations there were only temporary opponents of it in various competitions.
