Summary/Abstract: Haut-Nkam division, located in West Cameroon, is an administrative unit made up of individuals from various backgrounds, bringing with them various languages and cultures; which are identified in addresssigns and other spatial denominations, both in the socio-cultural, economic and political context. This administrative division is called upon for this purpose, in order to question linguistic urbanity based on the denominational practices that decorate its places. From this linguistic manifestation is born the project of analysis of urban (de)nominative practices in relation to political, economic, and socio-cultural facts. By relying on the tools offered by urban sociolinguistics, we realize that the different denominations result from diverse and varied motivations. Each of them is marked by a strong investment in discursive strategies that reveal, on the one hand, a linguistic and cultural diversity and, on the other hand, political, economic, geographical, socio-cultural and identity issues.
