Summary/Abstract: The article forms a contribution to the debate on the merits of a knowledge of ethics in social services. It addresses the question of how the application of ethics in social services might enrich those who work in the sector. The idea emerged from the perception that with respect to social services, as a demanding, responsible and interdisciplinary professional sphere which aims to improve the quality of human life, increased emphasis should be placed on formulating the relevant ethical questions and determining the appropriate answers. Since the application of this idea is not self-evident, part of the text is devoted to the potential of such an approach. The contribution should be seen as a theoretical reflection that addresses both the essence of ethical reasoning and the search for answers within the structured outline of fundamental ethical concepts - specific suggestions that focus on the relevant context. On the basis of the theoretical suggestions, the article provides a description of the potential contribution of ethical approaches to particular social services applications. The introductory part of the article addresses the essence of ethical reasoning in the field of social services followed by an outline of selected starting points for the exploration of ethical sources. The discussion focuses on strains affecting employee relationships in the social services sector - the role bearer versus the private person and certain aspects of the ethical codex. The conclusion of the article reflects that the ethical dimension forms part of every conscious, free and responsible human action, via which we consider the assumptions, potential and consequences of our actions. It shows us that it is always possible to act in a different way. The theoretical background was compiled via the research of the contributions of experts in the field and the exploitation of contemporary ethics sources.
