Summary/Abstract: The article discusses the issue of changes which take place in a close relationship when a couple is having a baby. The results of 46 qualitative research are presented – these are in-depth interviews conducted with mothers of young children. The theoretical inspiration for the presented analyzes is D.H.J. Morgan’s theory of family practices. Thematic analysis was used. The interviewees pointed to the following unfavorable changes in the relationship, which occurred after the birth of a child: the lack of time and energy to build relationships with a husband/partner; the inability to spend time (at home or out) without children; the limitation of sexual contacts; and tensions which are generally of a temporary nature. Few women were of the opinion that the appearance of a child brought them closer to their husbands/partners and had a beneficial effect on their intimate relationships.
