The immunity of members of the European parliament

Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the parliamentary and personal immunities of the members of the European Parliament through the analysis of the Convention on the Functioning of the European Union, the Rules of Procedure of the European Union and the practice of the Court of Justice of the European Union. The author also examines protection mechanisms, as well as cases in which those mechanisms are activated in the complex system of the European Parliament. Starting from the previous considerations, the author tried to present a rounded picture of the specific position of the members of the European Parliament through the explanations of the regulatory solutions that determine their status and ensure their immunities and privileges.
