Education of Journalists in the Field of Media in Slovakia

Summary/Abstract: The interest in studying journalism is still ongoing in Slovakia despite the decreasing number of students in Slovakia in general. In this paper, we have described the main areas of journalism study in terms of courses offered to students in journalism programs in Slovakia. The current time requires new demands, how journalist should be prepared for its profession. We have point at the basic challenges in the field of education of journalism which is necessary to fil up. As we have mentioned, the main diffe- rences among the departments focusing on journalism education depend on the people who teach the courses and on heads of departments. The quality of the education process is based on financial support and the ability to hire journalists from the ground and to be equipped with the latest technology in the department.
