Summary/Abstract: The paper critically analyses the basic socioeconomic causes of the long-term crisis in the countriesof Southeast Europe (SEE). The aim of the paper is tofocus on three basic manifestations of post-socialistdeviations, which are predominantly related to usurpationand abuses of nomenclatures of power: inheritedopportunistic behaviour, quasi-neoliberal experiment, andalternative institutions. Their three-pronged influencecauses the crisis, as we have suggested for the initialhypothesis of the study. The paper uses methods ofabstraction, description, and analysis (political-economic,institutional, and comparative analysis). The mainconclusion is that the phenomena under study were basedon underdeveloped quasi-institutional monism. Theydeveloped to a great extent and managed to pervade all oralmost all social subsystems through the cause-and-effectrelationship: social losses - enrichment - impoverishment. The consequences are severe, devastating, and clear.Viewed through this prism, it is clear that the root causesof the crisis can be reduced to the non-existence and/orinsufficiency of institutions.
