Summary/Abstract: The term tribute band refers to that part of cover bands that tries to create an identical replica of the work of a selected music icon of pop culture by identifying the relevant parameters of the entire musical-stage performance and visual identity and taking them over and presenting them on stage. Globally, the appearance of tribute bands is another indicator of a change in the way popular music is perceived, which manifests itself through giving documentary and historical importance to iconic images, symbols and prominent figures from the past of popular music. On the domestic music scene, this phenomenon arises in specific conditions that are the product of the then unfavorable social and political circumstances and, ultimately, fundamental changes in the structure of the music industry and dominant cultural models. A suitable climate is created for the appearance of tribute bands on the domestic music scene - evoking the image of the idealized society of the former Yugoslavia meets with a positive reaction from the fans, while the insistence on the historicity and artistic value of everything related to the past simultaneously provides a pleasing and high-quality alternative to the prevailing marketed content. Representatives of the underground scene, due to the difficulties in asserting themselves in the newly created situation, are now getting a new strategic space to offer resistance to the ruling values on the music scene - through acting in tribute bands. In the paper, research on the relationship between the original and the replica was launched - the goal is to refute the established opinion about commercialism and the lack of artistic value and integrity in such bands, as well as at least partially shed light on what turns out to be a representative version of the original from the perspective of the musicians, then the audience, and how much is a creative influence in the final outcome of these processes.
