Summary/Abstract: The article presents the history and the wider context of the creation of an experimental educational facility – the Rolex Learning Center (RLC) at the EPFL polytechnic in Lausanne, Switzerland. The building designed by Japanese architects – SANAA / Kazuyo Sejima + Ryue Nishizawa is an example of the implementation of a radical vision on the border of eastern and western cultures. Unique urban, functional, formal and structural solutions can be a valuable inspiration and point of reference for architects and students developing projects related to education.
