Summary/Abstract: Based on Infante’s concept of verbal aggressiveness, the article presents a new perspective on understanding the business letter. By means of stylistic, rhetorical, morphological, syntactical and lexical approaches, it reveals expressions of irony, mockery, derision, intimidation, menace, all of them considered to be forms of aggressiveness in Infante’s theory. The article scrutinizes these forms of aggressiveness in Italian and Romanian business letters. The analysis is performed separately for each business letter. Equivalent aspects are emphasized in the last part of the article, suggesting a predominantly common linguistic pattern of expressing aggressiveness in Italian and Romanian business letters.
