Summary/Abstract: The study aims to present the status of the notary public, according to the current legislation in Romania. The profession of notary public has a liberal character, altough it is assimilated to the status of a public servant in the lato sensu concept. The notary public contributes through his activity to the achievement of the fundamental human rights. The work of the notary public has an authentic nature, public authority and an important contribution in the development of relations between persons on the territory of a state. We intend to identify in this study some of the ways in which the notary public contributes to enforce the human rights and freedoms and also the changes in his legal status and in his activity, by the coming into force of the newest normative acts.
