Revision of art. 48 of the Constitution of Romania

Summary/Abstract: The Romanian State prohibits, under the civil law, the same-sex marriage, however, such a prohibition has not been raised at the constitutional level, so that a group of united nongovernmental organizations filed a civic legislative initiative to revise the Constitution for the purpose of amending art. 48 thereof by replacing the word “spouses” with the phrase “a man and a woman”. The respective initiative has been validated, a referendum being organized taking into account the revision of the Constitution.
