Summary/Abstract: A survey of selected cities in the Czech Republic has demonstrated that city authorities, local non-profit organisations, schools and other entities organise a large number of activities and events for the benefit of seniors (i.e. persons aged 60 and over). As a whole, they contribute towards a higher quality of life in old age, facilitate active ageing and satisfy a significant number of the psychological needs of older people. Many activities are organised by seniors themselves, and their voluntary work makes use of the enormous potential provided by their accumulated experience and skills. The various activities and events identified are classified into thematic groups and assessed in terms of the frequency of occurrence (uniqueness). It is hoped that the annotated overview will provide a source of inspiration for other organisers.
