Summary/Abstract: Statistics compiled by the courts, child protection agencies, the police and other relevant players consistently indicate that cases of violence against children in the Czech Republic are on the increase and that available data on the subject represents only the tip of the iceberg with concern to this issue. Moreover, experts point to the difficulty of identifying cases of violence against children by the general public and experts and the subsequent decision as to whether an abuse has been committed or whether there is simply a suspicion of abuse and which procedure to follow with regard to the interests of all involved, especially the child, and the potential adverse consequences that may subsequently arise with concern to the child and his/her immediate environment, the person against whom the suspicion is directed and the person reporting the incident. This paper brings together the opinions of five experts from various professions as to the various barriers to fulfilling the obligation to notify cases of violence against children and how to remove such barriers.
