Summary/Abstract: The text deals with the preferred length of maternity and parental leave and who should take parental leave. It is based on data from 7 European countries gathered in the framework of ISSP international research in 2012. It reveals that Czechs and Slovaks show exceptionally high support for long periods of parental leave compared with the residents of the other European countries surveyed. Support for a period of parental leave of less than 2 years in the Czech environment was found to be negligible across all educational groups; university students, however, expressed a slightly lower level of support for parental leave of three and more years.
