Summary/Abstract: T.S. Kuhn is best known for his significant contributions to the history and philosophy of science, in which the paradigm occupies a central place. The present paper aims to analyze the concept of paradigm in order to identify those elements that make possible the coherence of tradition and scientific research by guiding the paradigm in the absence of rules. I begin with a narrow approach to the concepts of paradigm, rules, and normal science. Then the paradigm is analyzed from the perspective of the stages presented by Kuhn, as a disciplinary matrix and an example/exemplars. The next section is devoted to the concept of „family resemblances” analyzed as an element that could support the coherence of the scientific tradition and the unity of the members of the community even in the absence of rules. The closeness and influence of L. Wittgenstein on T.S. Kuhn regarding the mentioned concept is highlighted.
