Summary/Abstract: The author first lists the so-called mega-trends for the twenty-first century, inspired by the theses of the Spanish prognosticator J. L. Abellan. He shows the problem of literacy in the context of the OECD report on the issue (especially in the countries of central Europe). As with the ongoing mega trends, declining literacy and other phenomena affect the development of „small“ philology, which includes the study of Slavic languages and literatures.
