Transformation of the Health Care System in Poland (1989–2003)

Summary/Abstract: The social and political transformation that took place at the turn of 1989/1990 in Poland changed many areas of social life. One of them was health protection. Sociopolitical changes have fundamentally changed the health care sector, introducing new principles of operation of the health service and completely different fi nancing. This study attempts to determine the transformation of the health care system in Poland at the turn of 1989/1990 and how the systemic transformation influenced changes in the health care sector. Its fundamental transformation began at the turn of 1989/1990, and quite important changes took place in 1997–2003. The hypothesis in question will be verified by the following research methods: behavioral and institutional-legal.
