Summary/Abstract: In the study, we focused on the adequate use of the term readability, comprehensibility, complexity and difficulty of text in professional communication. We have stated some starting points for the semantic distinction of the terms readability and comprehensibility and the semantic correspondence of the terms complexity and difficulty of didactic text.We proposed to distinguish between readability and comprehensibility based on three focal activities: identifying, cognitive and interpretative. The activities assume a network of relationships, the elements of which are: perception and apperception of text, recognition and understanding, empirical induction and empirical deduction, the semasiological and onomasiological approach, and the “bottom-up” and “top-down” strategy. We understand text comprehensibility as a communication parameter of text, which is defined by apperception at the level of identification activities, understanding at the level of cognitive activities, and deductive processes of reasoning, the onomasiological approach and the “top-down” strategy at the level of interpretation activities. We suggest viewing text readability as a communication parameter of text defined by empirical evidence (perception) at the level of identification activities, recognition and understanding at the level of cognitive activities, and inductive reasoning processes, the semasiological approach and the “bottom-up” strategy at the level of interpretation activities.The reception complexity and difficulty of text is often discursively presented as readability and comprehensibility of text. We interpreted the mutual commutability (interchangeability) of the term complexity and difficulty of text against the background of their mutual contextual substitutability. We have emphasized the fact that, as a result of the implicitly implemented sememe of degree and/or level/measure, the necessary prerequisites are created for the application of quantification, and text is naturally subject to measurements from the point of view of complexity (difficulty).
