Summary/Abstract: Tending to illuminate the episode of the Battle of Rovine as an anticipation of the novel’s description of the Battle of Kosovo, research attention is focused on analytical view of the image of the Battle of Kosovo and the Kosovo Vow in Pekić’s Golden Fleece, in an apocryphal epic poem by Vukoje Hranisavljević. The paper examines the relations of characters Bartolomeo Micielli and Simeon I of Constantinople according to the values that Vukoje’s poem inherits, as well as the intertextual ties it achieves towards epic poetry of the Kosovo cycle, especially the work Kosančić Ivan spies on the Turks. Relying on the dialogic nature of the novel episode with reference to Kosovo, on the exploratory, epistemological nature of the dialogue, as well as on the basic concepts that Slobodan Vladušić shapes in the book Literature and Comments, the paper emphasize the key ethical/spiritual postulates of the characters and the writer’s closeness to Vukoje’s understanding of the significance of the Battle of Kosovo. Pekić’s views on the meaning of this battle, scattered throughout his other works, are thus enriched by a different, Vukoje’s vision that recognizes the essence of the decisive battle in the voluntary commitment to the Kingdom of Heaven, in the spiritual, ethical and identity confirmation and victory reached through defeat.
