THE SACRED EROTIC OF GEORGES BATAILLE

Summary/Abstract: In the preface to his book Eroticism, Georges Bataille already says in the first sentence: "The human spirit is exposed to the strangest injunctions (plus surprising injunctions). It is constantly afraid of itself. It is horrified by its own erotic excitements (mouvements). The saint turns away from the voluptuous in disgust: no he knows about the unity (l'unité) that connects his shameful (inavouable) passions with hers". Bataille therefore seeks exactly this unity, that is, he seeks that fundamental force that lies in each individual and waits for the moment of its realization. It is called "sacred eros". In the middle is eros, which unites not only the living but also life and death.
