Summary/Abstract: In the article various solutions of language policy in the world are illustrated. Within the area of language policy the author distinguishes two distinct key-topics, both with long-term historical tradition. – status planning and language planning. The status planning (language regulation by Parliament or other state authority) involves the decision-making concerning the role of state language (as well as other co-existing languages polyglottal states) in official state administration (judicial and education system, the form and registration of personal and municipatory names etc.). The aim of corpus planning (language regulation by Academy) involves an extensive range of topics relating the „quality of language“, i. e. language culture, codification, standardization, education etc.
