Summary/Abstract: he paper deals with the contribution of the famous archaeologist Arthur J. Evans to the knowledge about the ancient past of today’s Herzegovina. We analyzed his travelogue hrough Bosnia and the Herzegovina on Foot during the Insurrection 1875 and a study entitled Antiquarian Researches in Illyricum, I - IV. He collected material for these works during his travels and archeological research in the period from 1875 – 1882 when he irst came to this area as a travel writer, and later as a journalist and researcher of antiquities. Special emphasis was placed on his stay in Mostar in the summer of 1875, as well as his pioneering contribution to the knowledge of Roman roads in eastern Herzegovina.
