Summary/Abstract: The article is an attempt to redefine the notion of "inteligent" [intelligentsia member] in Yiddish. By proceeding from the assumption that the judgements made by a community using a given language as well as the perception of the world characteristic of the given communication community can also be reached through a linguistic analysis, the author analyses linguistic data taken from currently available Yiddish dictionaries. She analyses words derived from the word "inteligent" and the definitions of "inteligent" encountered in Yiddish. This enabled the author to embark on a preliminary attempt to interpret the contents that could be read from the Linguistic World View, to see what the notion of "inteligent" embraces in this specific instance. That analysis, as well as the proposed new definition together with the components of its meaning, should be seen as merely an introduction to a broader study of the notion of "inteligent" in Yiddish.
