Summary/Abstract: The paper will consider traditional and ritual dances that influenced the development of modern dance. They will be united not only by the purely geometric shape of the figure built by the bodies of the people in a circle, or by the movement itself in a circular direction. The focus will be on the dances of the dervishes in Asia Minor, the Paneurhythmy of Peter Danov, the dances of the local population of Central America and choreographic examples from Martha Graham’s work. I will analyze how meditative states are achieved through the movement and geometric figure, what their influence over the contemporary dance styles and different movement patterns is.
