Summary/Abstract: Cristina Nicolae’s book suggests a novel explorative endeavour which analyses the versatile dynamics of one of the modernity’s controversial concepts, the identity, such as depicted in the works of three authors belonging to distinct periods, mentalities and ideologies, three stances of the rebel and the shapes of the transgression of the limits framed by time, space and gender: Victorianism – Modernism − Post-modernism, the space of the British – American identity, the vertical of the masculine – feminine identity.
