Summary/Abstract: The philosophical novel was a favorite genre in France in the 18th century: the validity of a certain "philosophical" point of view was questioned primarily through the novel's plot. Furthermore, since philosophy in the Age of Enlightenment still covered the broadest questions of the spirit, there was a critical approach, for example, to absolutism in politics, providentialism in the religious sphere, the so-called optimism or fatalism in philosophy in the narrower sense. Rather than considering specific teaching through the discussions of his characters, inserted apologies and anecdotes, or the narrator's discursive comments, the novelist left it to the reader to conclude by following the characters' experiences. The paper analyzes how Tristan García's contemporary science fiction novel Jungle Memoirs establishes that ancient procedure in a literary and philosophically relevant way.
